The Museum of Vision, a public service program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, has teamed up with Let's Move!, First Lady Michelle Obama's national initiative dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation. One of the objectives of the campaign is to ensure that every family has access to affordable health education. The Museum of Vision, a national non-profit program, encourages teaching children the connection between healthy eyes and a healthy body. For its part, the Museum has contributed its own Healthy Eyes, Healthy Body curriculum to the cause.

While the concepts in the Healthy Eyes, Healthy Body curriculum can be appreciated by children of all ages, it is targeted to students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

The curriculum covers concepts in anatomy, physiology, life science, physical science and health education, with fun demonstrations and hands-on activities. The first chapter is an introduction to the eye and the human visual system. The following two chapters focus on eating right and exercise as building blocks to eye health and overall fitness. The curriculum guide, Healthy Eyes, Healthy Body, is FREE and can be downloaded here.

For more than 30 years, the Museum of Vision has provided educational materials for those interested in teaching children about eye health and the science of vision. The goal is to get the curriculum guides in the hands of educators across the country. Please join us in being part of the solution by using this free curriculum with your students.
