In the podcast, "New Study Reveals African American Males Had Highest Rate of VTE," Dr. Steven Deitelzweig discusses study data about the need for improved awareness and prevention of venous thromboembolism across all ethnic groups. This study showed that African Americans had the highest rate of VTE.

About the speakers:
Dr. Alpesh Amin is Executive Director, Hospitalist Program; Medical Director, Anticoagulation Clinic and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs & Quality Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.


Dr. Amin is an active proponent of the hospitalist movement. He has published in areas of hospital medicine, medical education and quality outcomes in venous thromboembolism prevention. Dr. Amin is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Senior Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine.


Dr. Steven Deitelzweig
is System Chairman of the Department of Hospital Medicine and Vice President of Medical Affairs at the Ochsner Medical Center.


An extensive lecturer, Dr. Deitelzweig has presented regionally, nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, such as heart failure, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, acute coronary syndrome and anticoagulation. He is a Senior Fellow and charter member for the Society of Hospital Medicine and has been course director for the Ochsner/Emory University-sponsored Southern Hospital Medicine meeting for 9 years. He is currently the Vice President for the Gulf States Hospitalists Society.
